Balatonfüred is a famous spa and tourist resort situated on the northern shore of the largest sweet water lake in Europe, Lake Balaton. You can enjoy a marvellous view on Tihany Peninsula and the hills round the town. Archeological finds from the Roman era prove that there already had been a well-known ancient settlement on this place.

Visitors in the 18th century appreciated the town and its special natural formations: the Lóczy cave, the dolomitic rocks of Koloska Valley and the famous springs with carbonic acidic water.The carbonic acidic water was used in water therapies to treat patients suffering from cardiological and nervous diseases. Sources dated from that time mentioned Balatonfüred as a well-known spa in Europe.

The animated bathing life had a beneficial effect on the cultural life of the town, politicians and contemporaneous artists, intellectuals came to visit the town to meet each other. Many of them built an own mansion in the hostorical centre of the town. If you want to visit historical monuments, you can go to the Kossuth Spring on the Gyógy Square to taste its mineral water, or go to the Blaha Mansion, the former sommer residence of one of the most famous Hungarian actresses, or to the Horváth House, the very first ball room in Balatonfüred that accommodated the spectacular Anna Balls. The promenade beside the lake is namedafter Rabindranath Tagore, an Indian poet of international repute. Fine statues and memorial trees remind famous people visiting the town. The former Jókai Mansion is now a wonderful museum.

Visitors appreciate the medical effect of mineral waters from different spring waters, like Kossuth Spring, Berzsenyi Spring, Szekér Ernő Spring, Schneider Spring and they can also enjoy a thermal bath in the Cardioligical Hospital Spa.

Nice hills and villages in the surrounding of the town or the Tihany Peninsula will offer you a great sensation. The Balaton Cícling Road gives oppurtunity for an active relax, and all fishermen and sailors are heartly welcome. You can listen to organ concerts in Tihany Abbey, or go to summer theatre festival in Veszprém. If you are interested in porcelain, don't forget about visiting the world-famous Porcelain Manufacture in Herend.
